Susannah Carr and Rick Ardon’s world-best achievement presenting Channel 7 nightly news for 40 years definitely deserves a medal.

And that’s what Perth Mint thought as well — marking the incredible achievement by printing of 1000 commemorative medallions, featuring their names and images.

“It was a surprise, because I don’t think we were expecting anything like this to commemorate the 40 years, but it’s fantastic,” Carr said.

“There are only going to be 1000 and we know we’re going to be at Lakeside Joondalup and Cockburn Gateway and there’ll be a number of them given away at each place.

“It’ll be something that hopefully people want to collect and you’ve got a chance to get one when we go to those shopping areas.”

Ardon said the medallion was also a nice trip down memory lane.

“It’s a really old photos (on the medallions) too which make me chuckle a little,” he said.

“There have been so many photos over the years, you tend to forget what you used to look like.”

Carr and Ardon have been presenting Perth’s evening news together since the 24th of January 1985.

They are the longest-serving television news anchor duo on the planet — as recognised by Guinness World Records in 2022.

Perth Mint chief executive officer Paul Graham expected the medallions to be highly-sought after.

“It’s iconic, it’s unique, there’ll never be another thing like it,” he said.

“The mintages are very low, only 1000 will ever be made and for those lucky enough to get their hand on one, enjoy, it’ll be a keepsake.”

“It’s quite a fantastic and unique opportunity to be able to celebrate two iconic figures here in Western Australia who have endured success for over 40 years.”
