Binge has announced it will screen the long-awaited final reunion show of the popular UK sitcom this December 26, just hours after its release in the UK.

The beloved series, which launched the careers of James Corden (Smithy), Ruth Jones (Nessa), Matthew Horne (Gavin) and Joanna Page (Stacey) ran for three seasons from 2007, returning for two Christmas specials, one in 2008 and one in 2019.

The latter was a huge hit with fans, becoming one of the biggest scripted series of the decade in the UK, with a whopping 17 million viewers tuning in.

“It’s been five years since we left Nessa down on one knee declaring her love for Smithy and asking him to marry her. And a lot has happened since then,” an official release reads.

The original cast, including Corden and Jones, the show’s creators, all returned to reprise their roles, with filming completed in Wales this month.

Since its original run, the show has only gained in popularity, scoring cult status with fans, thanks in part to a new generation discovering it via snippets posted to TikTok and Instagram — fans have been pushing for a reunion series for several years.

According to an official release, we pick up with Gavin and Stacey “looking for new ways to spice up their seventeen year marriage”, Bryn (Rob Brydon) packing the Picasso in readiness for a trip to Essex, and Gwen (Melanie Walters) “behaving most strangely”.

“Nessa’s started a new business venture and Neil the Baby’s about to begin an apprenticeship with his dad,” it reads.

“Over in Billericay Pam (Alison Steadman) is stressing out at the prospect of playing hostess, not helped by a newly retired Mick (Larry Lamb) practising his golf swings in the living room and there have been more ups and downs in Pete (Adrian Scarborough) and Dawn’s (Julia Davis) relationship.”

And yes, before you ask, viewers WILL finally get to find out what happened on that infamous fishing trip all those years ago.
