Gage Roads and Pink Boots join forces to boost female brewers’ beer careers on International Women’s Day

Raise a glass to International Women’s Day on March 8 and help support pathways for female and non-binary brewers within the beer industry with Gage Roads Brew Co.’s Sunset State WA IPA and accompanying scholarship. The fourth annual collaboration between an all-female crew from Gage Roads and the Pink Boots Society Australia is a six per cent brew combining native Jambinu Zest Geraldton Wax with Citra and Amarillo hops for a pronounced citrus profile. Gage Roads Freo head brewer Simon Clements said the Geraldton Wax compliments the hop duo. “This IPA has medium bitterness and a rounded malt body, pouring with a golden amber colour, reminiscent of WA’s summer sunset,” she said. Sales of Sunset State WA IPA will fund a $10,000 scholarship with Pink Boots to promote leadership skills and careers of women in the brewing industry. Last year’s WA recipients included Bronte O’Donoghue from Eagle Bay Brewing, Wild Hop’s Sarah Clarke and Cheeky Monkey’s Zoe Haisman. Gage Roads brand manager Mimi Crompton said it was great to work with an all-female brewing team to bring the new IPA to life. “This is the fourth time we’ve brewed and released an IWD beer, and every year it’s always so great to work alongside the legendary ladies of Gage,” she said. “I’m really proud of what we’ve delivered.” Sunset State WA IPA will be available on tap and in can across WA on International Women’s Day, with a bar shout, industry panel Q&A and acoustic performance from Grace Newton-Wordsworth of Joan and the Giants at Gage Roads Freo on March 8. A non-profit organisation, the Pink Boots Society was founded 15 years ago in the US to “assist, inspire and encourage” women and non-binary individuals in the alcoholic beverage industry, especially craft beer, through education.
