Former Triple J presenter Bridget Hustwaite says she wants to work in radio again when she relocates to WA with her now AFL partner Oscar McDonald after he signed a two-year deal with the Fremantle Dockers.

The 32-year-old Melbournian, who hosted Good Nights for five years, will move West in the New Year with the couple’s dog Daisy, who is already a “purple paws member”.

Her partner, McDonald, will be here at the end of the month for Dockers pre-season training before returning to Melbourne for Christmas and New Year celebrations.

After hanging up the mic on the radio show last year, Hustwaite told The West Australian she would love to return to the airwaves.

“I would love to get back into radio at some point, so if that opportunity arises in Perth, I’m definitely open to it,” she said.

“Thankfully, my work is pretty mobile, so I am able to continue podcasting and writing, and I’ll still return to Melbourne and Sydney when needed.”

The couple, who are currently on holiday in Fiji, will be looking for a new abode in none other than Fremantle but are open to living by the Swan River or the beach.

“I’m so excited! It feels like a fun new adventure and a really nice change of scenery,” she said.

“I have always loved Perth; I was here this time last year for WAMfest and am obviously a huge fan of the music scene. I even DJed at Amplifier and The Lookout back in 2019.”

It seems her life has come full circle after first visiting WA as a youngster on a road trip from Ballarat with her family.

“We made some pretty epic detours in Monkey Mia, Albany, Margaret River and Geraldton, so I’m super excited to call Perth home and explore the rest of the state with Oscar,” she said.

“Fremantle has also been incredibly welcoming and supportive. I’ve already toured the club and have met Justin (Longmuir), Peter (Bell) and a few of the players and their partners.

“We’re stoked to be joining the Freo fam.”

McDonald, 27, joined the Dockers on a two-year deal through the delisted free agency period, having toured their facility late last month. Hustwaite celebrated the move by posting a happy snap of the couple in Fiji with McDonald donning a Dockers hat.

McDonald played 81 games for Melbourne and five for Carlton but was delisted by the Blues at the end of the 2022 season, having battled a back injury.

Hustwaite said the couple’s island getaway was an opportunity to “acclimatise our Melbourne bodies ahead of the move”.

“We are currently on Tokoriki Island, where the sun is absolutely blaring, and the water is crystal clear. There’s been a lot of swimming and lounging around, but Oscar has remained very diligent with his running schedule in the mornings,” she said.

Along with being a stalwart in the radio and music scene, Hustwaite is also an author and passionate health activist.

Her debut book, How to Endo, which chronicles her experiences with endometriosis, was released on 2 March 2021.

She first joined the ABC in December 2015 as a part-time presenter on Triple J.
