Genesis is heading to Le Mans with this very orange hypercar

Luxury brand Genesis is going racing, and you won’t miss its hypercar on the track.

Revealed in the metal at the New York motor show today, the GMR-001 Hypercar from Genesis Magma Racing (GMR) is an LMDh endurance prototype engineered for the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and the IMSA SportsCar Championship (IMSA).

GMR is making its debut in the former in 2026, which will see it tackle the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and then the latter in 2027.

The GMR-001 Hypercar is powered by a twin-turbocharged V8 hybrid powertrain, though GMR hasn’t released full specifications.

Per regulations, however, LMDh vehicles’ hybrid powertrains can’t produce more than 500kW.

The powertrain and chassis were developed in partnership with French firm ORECA Motorsport, one of the four firms licensed to supply chassis for LMDh cars. ORECA also supplies Acura and Alpine.

After first showing off the GMR-001 last year, GMR has now revealed what its racecar livery looks like, as well as its race suits.

Finished in Genesis’ new signature Magma orange – not to be confused with the Payaya/black livery of McLaren racers – the racecar also features distinctive colour gradients, as well as Magma writing in Hangeul (written Korean).

The race suits feature design elements of Genesis vehicles, such as the Two-Line lighting elements and G-Matrix diamond pattern.

They’ll be worn by drivers including three-time Le Mans 24-hour winner André Lotterer and four-time 12 Hours of Sebring winner Luis ‘Pipo’ Derani.

As revealed previously, the GMR-001 Hypercar brings elements of the brand’s Athletic Elegance design language to a very different type of vehicle from that found in its showrooms.

It was designed at Genesis’ European design centre under chief creative officer Luc Donckerwolke.

The brand’s distinctive Two-Line lights can be found wrapped around the front and rear, emphasising the width of the racecar, while it also features a sweeping Parabolic Line along the side profile.

There’s an active rear spoiler to optimise downforce and an extra plane to increase high-speed stability, while beneath the bodywork there is an “innovative cooling solution” to help the V8 engine breathe.

Genesis says its entry into motorsport is a “natural extension of its performance vision” and that its hypercar “serves as a dynamic testbed for technologies that will elevate the Magma sub-brand”.

It’s planning to take lessons on the hypercar’s durability, thermal management and hybrid efficiency and apply these learnings to its road cars.

“The origins of motorsport mainly being the endurance… It was the sport of the gentlemen drivers, and this is very much something that we like to identify ourselves with, so we thought there was a match there,” Mr Donckerwolke told media in Seoul earlier this month.

“I believe that we can get a better internal dynamic by having people motivated by motorsport. It’s about learning a lot from motorsport, motorsport is not doing what you are allowed to do, it’s doing what is not forbidden.

“This kind of attitude allows you to find all the technical solutions.

“Genesis will be the pioneer of motorsport for Korea… We are bringing a new culture into Korea.”

“As we gear up for our 2026 WEC and 2027 IMSA campaigns, we are not merely assembling a race team; we are forging a legacy. Each day brings us one step closer to realising the full potential of Genesis in the world of motorsports.”

Genesis has already entered the motorsport world, participating in the 2025 European Le Mans Series (ELMS) with an LMP2 entry supported by IDEC Sport and driven by Jamie Chadwick from the UK and Mathys Jaubert from France, both from the Genesis Magma Racing Trajectory Program.
