The most wonderful time of the year can also be the most expensive but 7NEWS presenter Graeme Butler has revealed how you can enjoy Christmas day knowing you haven’t overspent on gifts.

Speaking on his Butler’s Budget Busters segment this week, he explained what you can “do to ease the pocket pain”.

Finance expert Jason Featherby acknowledged how Christmas can also be the most “expensive” and “stressful” time of year for those watching their cash.

Mr Featherby suggests having a set budget and shopping list to avoid overspending on last-minute gifts.

“Knowing who you need a gift for, how much you want to spend on them and exactly what you are going to buy them can help you avoid the Christmas rush and impulse purchases,” he said.

Butler spoke to The Client advocate Paul Rowe about the advantages of shopping early, especially during sales like Black Friday and Cyber Monday when stores offer “awesome” savings.

“To make the most of your money you should compare prices online,” Butler said.

He suggests using websites like Getprice to find the cheapest deal.

Mr Featherby also suggests talking to your kids and family about gift expectations before Christmas day.
