A Norwegian court has imposed a six-month sentence on a wheelchair-bound foreigner for throwing two Molotov cocktails at the royal palace in Oslo, local police say.

The man had received a reduced sentence as he had admitted his crime, they said.

His health problems had also contributed to the court's decision.

The authorities are looking into possible deportation.

The attack took place on July 8 at the rear of the castle in the centre of the Norwegian capital.

The man, who was seated in an electric wheelchair, told an eyewitness that he was carrying a bomb before hurling two Molotov cocktails at the building.

While there were flames, the damage was minor.

The senior members of the royal family, King Harald V and Queen Sonja, and Crown Prince Haakon and Princess Mette-Marit were not in the palace at the time although one unnamed royal was in the building.

A defence lawyer for the man, reportedly a Belarusian citizen, told TV2 that he had not intended to injure anyone and that his act had been a "cry for help".
