Police find stolen white Isuzu D-Max ute involved in hit and run in Port Kennedy, three offenders on the run

A Port Kennedy resident has spoken of the moment he rushed outside to find his injured neighbour lying on the street after he had been run over by his own car in a violent struggle to stop it from being stolen.

Residents in the quiet cul-de-sac of Montpellier Mews were woken up by a commotion on the street about 5.50am on Wednesday, after 59-year-old Andy McCall tried to stop three offenders taking off with his Isuzu D-Max.

A tussle had broken out after the trio broke into the Mr McCall’s home and took his car keys, before hitting him in his driveway and then speeding away in his vehicle.

The 59-year-old suffered serious injuries and was rushed to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

One of the victim’s neighbours tried — but failed — to rip the passenger out of the front seat.

Another resident, Alan Atkinson, said he ran out to the street to find his neighbour lying down in the street.

“My wife actually woke me up, I was getting up for work, I was already awake but ... she’d come out saying something’s happening in the street,” Mr Atkinson told 7NEWS.

“So I got dressed and quickly went out and found my good friend, my neighbour Andy, face flat in the cul-de-sac.

“By then there were quite a few neighbours around Andy, one had got a blanket and kept him warm.”

The victim had tried to disrupt the offenders before they made a getaway with his car.

“Andy has been banged around a bit, he’s got quite a bit of marks on him,” Mr Atkinson said.

“I feel pretty angry about it because Andy is close to us ... I just wish I had woken up 5-10 minutes earlier.

“He’s a very good dude, he’s a great guy, he’d do anything for you.”

Police confirmed a member of the public had found the Isuzu D-Max abandoned on a bush track off Chalk Hill Road in Medina on Wednesday afternoon.

The hunt for the three offenders continues.

Detectives were combing the scene at Port Kennedy and speaking with neighbours to piece together how the scary incident unfolded.
