Jarred Deon Paul Baumgarten: Mid West man accused of damaging three cars by throwing rocks refused bail

A 32-year-old Mid West man has been remanded in custody after he allegedly launched rocks at three cars in Geraldton, smashing two windshields. Jarred Deon Paul Baumgarten appeared in Geraldton Magistrates Court on Thursday via video link from Greenough Regional Prison to apply for bail. The court was told he allegedly threw rocks at three cars on Monday, December 16, shattering the windscreens of two stationary vehicles. According to prosecutor Sgt Ross Gray, the third car was travelling north on Durlacher Street when the accused man threw a rock towards it, damaging the windscreen. Mr Baumgarten is also charged with stealing a vehicle in Geraldton. He faces three counts of criminal damage, steal motor vehicle and no authority to drive. He has not entered pleas. Magistrate Kelly Thompson said the risk of reoffending on bail was too high, noting Mr Baumgarten was already on a suspended imprisonment order when he was arrested for the latest tranche of charges. His bail was refused and he was remanded in custody until January 22, when he will reappear in court in Meekatharra.
