A family owned Goldfields grocery store has sold a winning Lotto ticket, with a mystery winner walking away more than $60,000 richer.

Boothey Morans IGA Local Grocer in Coolgarlie sold the lucky ticket with a winning set of numbers in Thursday’s second-division Powerball draw.

James Boothey, who co-owns the grocery with his wife and parents, said it was their first major prize since the family took over the shop five-and-a-half years ago.

“It’s an exciting time to have a shop with a Lotto . . . it’s a pretty good feeling to sell a division two winner, and hopefully, our luck continues, and we can sell a division one soon,” he said.

“We’ve been wanting to sell a major ticket since we took over . . . it’s a good feeling knowing somebody has won.”

Mr Boothey said he did not know who the lucky winner was, with a diverse mix of locals, tourists and truckies making up the customer base for the Great Eastern Highway shop.

A Lotterywest spokesperson told the Kalgoorlie Miner the ticket purchased in Coolgardie was one of three sold in WA which matched the numbers to a division two prize, with each winner receiving $60,249.

“So far this year, 27 WA players have won division two Powerball prizes, sharing in more than $3.6 million,” the spokesperson said.

“The WA division one winners’ tally across all lottery games this year is sitting at 48 wins, with WA players sharing in more than $64 million.”

The spokesperson said profits from all Lotterywest tickets went to funding projects across WA, including Coolgardie.

“Lotterywest is the only State Government-owned-and-operated lottery in the country, which means all available profits from every Lotterywest ticket sold go towards funding projects that benefit the WA community,” the spokesperson said.

“A $586,483 Lotterywest grant was recently provided to Millennium Kids to support the Kids on Country Project.

“This two-year project will support young people in Coolgardie to connect with their heritage through cultural, country and water knowledge while engaging with education, employment, and creative pathways.”

The Goldfields is also home to Boulder Newsagency and Lotto, described by owner Michael Saville as “the luckiest shop in Western Australia” after it produced six division-one winning tickets in the space of 18 months.
