Well-known local Frosty Martin has over the decades built strong ties across several sports, but only now is he developing a reputation as a genuinely lucky sportsman.

Among the ranks of thoroughbred racing, Martin has co-owned various winners — including Bravo Centurian in Perth for a big syndicate of Goldfields owners.

In the past year, Martin has extended that luck to his continued success in lawn bowls by winning various club and league events.

Earlier this month he was a member of the victorious club fours, with Steve Hill, Robbie Tane and Dave Malloch.

Last Sunday, that run of success — backed by good play — continued when his triples team of Tane and Doug Milne won on the last bowl of the weekend, when a measure showed their bowl was closest by the narrowest of margins.

Earlier in the all-Kalgoorlie final, Tane’s team led 9-2 and looked set for victory.

But with one end to play, Ray Western’s team of John Gittings and Brett Armstrong took the lead, 12-11.

That was when the measure gave Tane’s team two shots and victory.

Lawn bowls continues this Saturday with the fourth round of pennants between Kalgoorlie and Boulder.

The home team has won the first three rounds with this weekend’s program set down for Boulder, but this week’s rain may force a transfer to Kalgoorlie.
