Geraldton water polo round 14 wrap: B52’s dominate, with milestones celebrated and one round until finals

With only one round left in the Geraldton water polo season, teams are pushing to maintain momentum and fine-tune their strategies ahead of the finals.

Round 14 delivered another weekend of competitive match-ups, with B52’s putting in a commanding performance in the men’s A-grade on Saturday, securing a 9-3 victory against the Demons.

The game was intense from start to finish, with both sides showing relentless effort, but B52’s edged ahead in every quarter.

Kurt Tunbridge again proved invaluable, leading his team to another solid win.

The Rats continued their preparations with a match-up against the composite side, ahead of their final regular-season clash against B52’s next round.

The women’s A-grade saw an incredibly close contest between the Demons and Rats on Friday night, with Demons clinching a 7-6 win.

Both sides delivered entertaining and high-intensity water polo, with Trixie Kerr acting as a defensive anchor for the Demons, and Mel Bennett standing tall in goal.

Despite the loss, the Rats impressed with a strong performance and were unlucky not to take the win.

B52’s had a lot to celebrate, not only with their 16-5 win over the composite side, but also marking Aimee Hagan’s 201st game.

Hagan starred in the match, diving through a celebratory banner and scoring twice to cap off a memorable night. Next round, the Demons will face B52’s in what could be a grand final preview.

B52’s also showcased their dominance in the men’s B-grade, overcoming Relics 12-6.

The Rats put in an impressive display against the Demons, claiming an 11-4 victory.

Ollie Green and Adam Westbrook were standout performers for the winners, while Callum Sojan shone for B52’s.

With one round remaining, Demons and Relics will battle it out, while Rats aim to challenge B52’s in a key match-up before finals.

In the women’s B-grade, B52’s maintained their strong form with a 12-2 win over the Serpents.

The clash between Rats and Demons was much tighter, with Demons securing an 8-7 win.

Young stars Billie and Maddie Marshall, along with Saskia Newman, made key contributions.

The final round will see the Rats face Serpents and Demons take on B52’s, with Rats and Demons both vying for second place on the ladder.

Rats Black had a bye in the women’s C-grade, leaving Rats Orange to take on B52’s. In a surprise result, B52’s secured a 7-2 victory, with Opal Prout leading the charge.

Serpents edged out Demons Black in a 4-3 win, while Demons were victorious 11-6 over the Demons.

The men’s C-grade match between Demons and Rats ended in a 6-6 draw, while the final round of the regular season will see B52’s return to the water to take on the Demons in a crucial match-up before finals.
