Accreditation for Waikiki
Waikiki Private Hospital has become the first healthcare facility in WA to be fully accredited under a new set of government standards.
Director of Nursing Bron Mincherton said the hospital’s 72 staff had worked tirelessly to ensure the Wilmott Drive hospital met — and exceeded — the criteria laid down by the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Healthcare.
Mrs Mincherton said ACSQH auditors looked at 10 different aspects of the way the hospital is run including facilities, safety and quality of meals.
She said Waikiki had excelled in each category and staff would continue to uphold the high standard of care patients expect.
“It’s such a massive achievement,” she said.
“There is so much bad press about Australian health care — but we are all extremely proud of this.”
Mrs Mincherton, who has more than 20 years’ nursing experience, said the hospital’s surgeons provided a variety of new treatments including oral surgery, urology, ophthalmology and plastic surgery.
“We provide a range of services here at Waikiki that people aren’t necessarily aware of,” she said.
“We have recently started offering gastric sleeve procedures as well as a new procedure to remove varicose veins.”
“Our new pioneering treatment for haemorrhoids is also very good — the previous method could be extremely painful, but patients can generally go home the same day with this new one.”
Mrs Mincherton said Waikiki Private Hospital’s homely atmosphere and fantastic staff made it the perfect choice for patients.
“We also offer a very dignified palliative care service,” Mrs Mincherton said.
“There are hospices at Murdoch and Hollywood as well, but we offer care for local people whose families perhaps can’t travel.
“It’s a small hospital, which gives it a nice personal touch.”
