The sound of new life reverberated through Rockingham General Hospital on New Year’s Day with the birth of three babies.

It was an unexpected New Year’s event for Cooloongup parents Chris Barbara and Samantha Taylor, who welcomed their new daughter Peyton Rose into the world at 9.39am.

Ms Taylor said Peyton, weighing in at just 2.81kg, was not due until the following week.

“She was induced because the doctors were a bit worried about her size and I had my waters properly broken at 3.30am,” Ms Taylor said.

“They gave me the drip at about 7am and then by 9.39am it was all over with.”

Ms Taylor said Peyton’s birth went smoothly compared to her son Lachlan’s birth.

“He was also induced on his due date but they couldn’t find his heartbeat so it was a real rush, whereas she took her time and when she wanted to come out she came,” she said.

The second baby of the year followed 45 minutes later.

Waikiki residents Rianna Shanhun and Malcolm Binder welcomed Ava Jade into their lives at 10.24am, weighing in at 3.150kg.

Ms Shanhun said her contractions started at 5am.

“From then on it felt like it went really fast but I was going for 28 hours,” she said.

“By the time she was out and on my chest I fell asleep straight away. I was so exhausted.”

The third, and final, baby born at the hospital on New Year’s Day entered the world at 11.53pm.
