UPDATE: At least one home has been damaged by an out-of-control bushfire burning in Perth’s south.

A bushfire emergency warning was issued for parts of Anketell and Oakford about 3.30pm, when the blaze ignited near Thomas Road and Marri Park Drive.

The West Australian was told the fire was accidental. It is believed it may have been caused by machinery, however, this has yet to be confirmed.

Up to 50 firefighters responded to the inferno, battling to protect nearby properties for more than two hours before managing to contain it.

Just before 6pm the emergency warning was downgraded to a watch and act. It applies to people bounded by Anketell Road to the north, Tuart Road to the east, Thomas Road to the south and Treeby Road to the west in parts of Anketell and Oakford.

While the fire is now stationary and contained, a Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokesman stressed it was not controlled.

There is still a possible threat to lives and homes.

So far 11ha have been scorched.

At least one home has been confirmed to have been damaged by the flames, however, the extent of the damage is still unclear.

Further assessments are still being undertaken, with the potential for other homes and structures to have been impacted.

Close to 50 firefighters that remain on the scene are now working to strengthen containment lines.

The perimeter of the blaze has cleared as well, in a bid to stop the fire from jumping.

A watch and act alert that was issued for residents in Oakford, Anketell, Wandi and Casuarina earlier has now been downgraded to an advice-level alert.

Locals are being advised there is no longer a threat to lives or homes but that the conditions might change and to stay alert.
