Kwinana parents and teachers are being brought together by a colourful art project.

Community artist Charlotte O’Shea has joined forces with volunteers at North Parmelia Primary School to create artwork for the school playground.

Not-for-profit organisation Song Room, which aims to engage young people through creativity, approached the school to be included in the project.

A group of 10 parents and staff members and O’Shea decided to create a series of interactive boards to be placed around the school grounds.

Each board is based on a different theme encompassing the school’s values, including welcome, sport, sustainability and academic achievement.

O’Shea, who has worked with Song Room before, said she enjoyed working with students and parents on art projects that helped build community spirit.

“It’s a very peaceful thing to do,” she said.

The group has been meeting every Monday for the past four weeks and expects to have the project completed in another two weeks’ time.

Project co-ordinator Janene Watts said it had been any enjoyable project for all involved.

“Charlotte is not only a talented artist but has designed a creative and energising space to come together as school volunteers to share stories,” she said.

“We have got to know one another while creating something that will both inform and beautify our school.”

O’Shea is running a similar project at Leda Primary School.
