West Australian authors Annabel Smith and Yvette Walker will share the stage to discuss their secrets of success in Kwinana next month.

Walker, whose first novel Letters to the End of Love has been shortlisted for the 2014 Western Australian Premier's Book Awards, and Smith, whose novel A New Map of the Universe was shortlisted for the awards in 2005, will speak about writing and publishing.

A bookseller with a PhD in Creative Arts, Walker's novel evolved from a short story called Dear Reader, which won the 2003 HQ Magazine National Short Story Competition.

"I'm very proud to be nominated alongside such talented writers," she said.

"It is so difficult to get a first book out there, so it's wonderful when that achievement can be recognised.

"I've also been very pleased that quite a few Australian writers who I admire have enjoyed the book."

Smith is about to release her third novel, The Ark, which she describes as an "interactive speculative fiction novel".

The book will be self-published.

"It will be accompanied by an app which allows people to delve deeper into the world of the novel, and also continue to grow the world of the novel by adding their own content," she said.

"I chose to self-publish because I couldn't find any publishers that were making books like the one I envisaged and I wasn't prepared to compromise."

Tickets to Stories on Stage cost $15, which includes supper.

Books will be available to buy on the night and a copy of one of the authors' books will be given as a door prize.

Bookings are essential on 9467 7118.
