Baldivis centre set to open

A new family centre due to open in Baldivis next month will offer playgroups, counselling and workshops for parents, South Coastal Women's Health chief executive Bev Jowle says.
The new centre at Arpenteur Drive would act as a one-stop centre for families in the suburb, Ms Jowle said.
She believes the new centre, which will operate in partnership with Kwinana Early Years Services, was needed to reduce travel time to existing services in Rockingham and Kwinana.
"At the moment, there is nowhere close by where Baldivis families can go for support," Ms Jowle said.
"Child health nurses are seeing up to 50 births a month in Baldivis and there are five large primary schools, so there is great need for such a centre."
Ms Jowle said South Coastal Women's Health in Rockingham had recorded a huge increase in Baldivis parents seeking support, particularly new migrants and the partners of fly-in, fly-out workers.
"We have already been offering post-natal support at the new centre - we've had quite a few mothers through the doors," she said.
"We're planning on speaking with the community to find out what they need and incorporating that into our program."
Kwinana Early Years Services chief executive Annette Harwood said KEYS wanted to take a proactive approach to providing families the opportunity to engage services from a central location.
She said the new centre would provide positive future outcomes for the developing community.
Ms Jowle said the organisation hoped to raise up to $10,000 to renovate a large room at the property, which could be used for community activities.
