Baldivis duo share their story of loss

BRIAN OLIVERSound Telegraph

There is no yellow line, no camera following and recording their every move, yet the challenge still remains to keep the kilos off for Mandy Martin and son Brett.

The pair, from Baldivis, were contestants on the latest series of The Biggest Loser: The Next Generation and are continuing their weight-loss journey at the Aqua Jetty in Warnbro.

Mr Martin said it was good getting back to his normal life after three months of living in what he described as “The Biggest Loser bubble”.

The 24-year-old, who recorded a 57.4kg weight loss on the show’s season finale last month, said he found the transition to his everyday life easier than he expected.

Meanwhile, Mrs Martin, who lost 35.4 kg on the show, said she found it hard to adjust.

“When you’re in the house, you don’t have to think about anything, you’re just there to exercise and eat properly,” she said. “When you get back into the real world, life takes over again.”

Mrs Martin said she was still on track and would never go back to her bad habits.

“After going through what we went through, there’s no way you can go backwards,” she said. “For me, it’s making sure I still put myself first because that’s what got me into that situation in the first place, putting family and work and everything else before me.

“So now I’m home it’s making sure I make time for myself.”

The pair will share their experience at the Aqua Jetty on Sunday June 30 at 1pm, for bookings call 9593 9999.
