The bar staff at Rockingham’s Pink Duck are turning U.G.L.Y. next month in an attempt to raise much-needed funds for the Leukaemia Foundation.

The Understanding Generous Likeable You campaign has raised more than $8 million since starting in 2009, with the Rockingham venue getting involved for the first time in 2016.

This year’s event takes place from October 1 until November 14, with pub-goers asked to dig deep for a good cause.

The Pink Duck’s Wesley Fairlie will be urging patrons to support the Leukaemia Foundation cause.

“I know a few people that have suffered from it, so it is quite close to home,” he said.

“We don’t have any specific targets for how much we want to raise but anything is better than nothing.”

Manager Courtney Pink said a number of events, such as 1980s and beach parties, were being organised to support the cause.

Leukaemia Foundation WA general manager Andrew York hailed the Rockingham venue for getting involved.

“Every $80 raised by an U.G.L.Y. Bartender provides one night’s accommodation for people facing the challenges of blood cancer,” he said.

“Last year alone WA’s U.G.L.Y. Bartenders provided 2420 nights of accommodation to patients and their families.

“It’s great to have the support of the Pink Duck this year. We’re looking forward to seeing how they get U.G.L.Y. for blood cancer.”
