Bogan Fest to grant wishes

Bogans near and far have been called on to pack out the Rockingham Hotel on July 28 to help make sick children’s wishes come true with the Bogan Fest, which will raise funds for Make-A-Wish Australia.

Bogan and Proud owner Mark Stoner will host the night to raise money for Make-A-Wish’s Mandurah branch and wants people to pack out the Rockingham Hotel in their finest bogan attire.

Mr Stoner said bogans sometimes got a bad wrap and this would be a good-natured and fun way to raise money and to show bogans are not as unsophisticated as the dictionary might suggest.

He’s aiming to raise about $2000 on the night and said he wanted to help an organisation that resonated so strongly with him.

‘‘I’m raising funds for Make-A-Wish Australia because it’s something I’ve wanted to do for ages,’’ Mr Stoner said.

‘‘I’ve luckily never had kids who’ve been seriously unwell but I still really like things they do for kids.

‘‘I chose them because I once got dared to get a Bogan and Proud T-shirt on Julia Gillard so I know about challenges.

‘‘As long as people come away thinking, ‘that was a good, fun night out’ then I’ll be happy.’’
