Breakfast club give students a healthy start to school day

Kings College students are learning about the most important meal of the day at a new breakfast club.

Deputy principal Aaron Guppy said the club was initiated by teachers at the start of term to provide students with the skills to make healthy choices.

“A lot of the staff were worried about students coming to school without having a decent breakfast for whatever reason – so we decided to start a club,” he said.

Mr Guppy said the club ran every Thursday morning and up to 35 students attended.

“Students from Year 1 to 12 have access to a variety of nutritious cereals, as well as toast with vegemite and jam,” he said.

“Already the feedback from teachers is that it is making a difference with one or two individuals, with regards to their ability to stay focused and concentrate.

“It is also a social gathering and gives teachers a chance to meet students from other year levels.”

With the breakfast club becoming a hit with students, Mr Guppy said the school planned to run it twice a week next term.
