The Baldivis Brumbies only joined the Youth Girls AFL competition for the first time this year but the girls have already charged to the top of the ladder with a stellar season so far.

Coach and Baldivis Junior Club president Jamie McGillivray said he often forgot this was the girls’ first year.

“The team has gelled so quickly,” he said.

“A few weeks ago we won against last year’s premiership team and the skills are improving each week.

“Our numbers have grown too, and by next year I am certain we will have enough players to field a second team.

“The younger girls playing in Auskick each week look up to this team and it’s fantastic to see them inspire.”

McGillivray said he was exceptionally proud of three of his players who had been chosen to join the Peel Thunderbirds Youth Girls squad.

Brooke Davey, 16, Aduk Galuak, 16, and Abbie Kenny, 15, have caught the eye of selectors and look to have bright future in the sport. “We enjoy the game and love to play,” Kenny said.

“It’s tough and really physical sometimes but that’s the exciting part. Everyone on the team gets along really well and we are so happy with how we have played this season.

“It is exciting to think that some of us might be able to play in the new Women’s League one day.”
