It was very cold and windy but more than 100 people braved the conditions to celebrate the Leukaemia Foundation’s Light the Night fundraising event on Saturday.

More than $2000 was raised, which brings the total fundraising effort for the Rockingham event to $6300.

Leukaemia Foundation fundraising campaigns coordinator Sophie Simmons said participants enjoyed a sausage sizzle and picnic while they listened to live music by acoustic musician Paul Vickery.

“The lanterns looked beautiful and those who have lost a loved one wrote a message of hope on the HOPE banner, which was held by those leading the walk,” she said.

The nationwide Light the Night events raise money to support the 35 Australians diagnosed every day with blood cancer.
