Candidate to focus on the less fortunate

It was after eight years spent volunteering with charities overseas that Secret Harbour resident Julie-Anne Moyle decided to re-focus her philanthropy efforts on home soil.

Former operations manager Mrs Moyle said she had spent time in Vietnam and Cambodia working with orphans and victims of the sex trade before realising her help was needed in Rockingham.

Now, the mum-of-one hopes to change things from the inside by campaigning for a spot on the City of Rockingham Council.

Mrs Moyle said she had thrown her energy into helping the city's homeless over the past few months, co-founding The Crew (Christians ready, equipped and willing) to provide food and support for those in need.

She said she was committed to getting a better deal for the city's homeless - but there were many issues she believed needed addressed. "I'm passionate about helping the homeless - I want to be a conduit between the powers that be and the oppressed," Mrs Moyle said.

"But there are many issues in Secret Harbour that need to be addressed."

Mrs Moyle said she hoped to reignite the fight for a police station for the suburb and campaign for better family-friendly facilities, as part of a list of goals should she be elected next month.

She said she would like to see more play areas and better maintenance of existing facilities in Secret Harbour, and more parking for Warnbro Train Station.

Baldivis, Comet Bay, Rockingham and Safety Bay wards each have four-year terms available, with the exception of one vacancy from either Rockingham or Safety Bay, which will be a two-year term.

Nominations close tomorrow, with the election to be held on Saturday, October 17.
