Kwinana and Rockingham residents will hear a lot more about local government in the next few weeks, with candidates out to rustle up support for their campaigns.

At Rockingham City Council on Thursday, when nominations closed, there were two candidates set to battle it out in the coastal ward — incumbent councillor and Deputy Mayor Brian Warner who secured top spot on the ballot paper and former Rockingham mayor Chris Elliott.

In the Rockingham ward, four candidates (in the order they will appear on the ballet paper) — former Rockingham deputy mayor Allan Hill, incumbent councillor Joy Stewart, project manager Michael Reilly and former candidate Rosalie Cameron — have nominated for two vacancies.

In the Rockingham ward, Cr Paul Ellis did not renominate due to his taking on new business commitments.

In the Safety Bay ward, where there are two vacancies, Cr Leigh Liley was third on the ballot paper behind her fellow councillor Les Dodd while Ron Pease drew pole position.
