CETO trial Australian first
Wave energy developer Carnegie has announced the completion of a successful offshore trial of its CETO 3 unit off Garden Island, and City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels has hailed the project.
CETO converts wave energy into zero-emission electricity and desalinated water.
The Mayor said sustainable energy was a growth industry with the potential to bring employment and economic benefits to the area.
‘‘Renewable, sustainable energy technologies such as wave energy are the way forward for our planet.
‘‘When complete this will be Australia’s first commercial-scale wave energy project and we believe sustainable energy will be important to the future of our region, offering so much potential to generate employment and investment in the area.’’
CETO 3 is offshore between Garden Island and Five Fathom Bank at a depth of about 25m.
The next phase is finalising the design for a grid connected commercial demonstration project.
