Children celebrate love from families

ELISIA SEEBERSound Telegraph

YMCA St Bernadette’s Out of School Hours Care celebrated National Families Week on Thursday afternoon with a family sausage sizzle.

The afternoon included face painting, a colouring-in competition and games.

National Families Week celebrated the vital role WA families played in the community.

Child care supervisor Jo Jefferson said it was an opportunity for the centre to show its appreciation to parents.

‘‘Without family, children don’t learn and grow,’’ she said.

Deputy supervisor Elaine Elder said the week was a great time for kids to learn about the importance of family.

‘‘It is important for children to understand loving and caring,’’ she said.

Children from a range of schools in the area attended the event to play with their peers in a friendly and safe environment.

Rockingham Lakes student Alesia Jefferson, 9, said she loved her family.

‘‘I like being a part of my family because they take care of me and they love me,’’ she said.

Port Kennedy Primary School student Nikkeah Harvey, 8, said she liked hugs from her family.

National Families Weekended on Monday with celebrations across the State.
