Redevelopment of the Rockingham Foreshore precinct and the attraction of a major hotel are the key aspirations announced last week as part of the City of Rockingham economic strategy for the next four years.

At an official launch last week, a document outlined master planning for Churchill and Bells Parks, The Boardwalk between Churchill Park and Val Street jetty, Rockingham Beach Road between Wanliss Street and Railway Parade and The Esplanade between Palm Beach and Val Street jetties.

Key outcomes for the coming years included feasibility studies for the building of an ocean pool at the foreshore, better linkage between Bell Park and Palm Beach jetty, increased alfresco dining opportunities, traffic reduction and technologically advanced public toilets.

It also outlined its intention to boost tourism through support for the Mangles Bay and Wanliss Street marina projects.

Aside from its plan for the foreshore area, the City also outlined its intentions to encourage further commercial investment at Dixon Road precinct and highlight the development potential of Secret Harbour, Port Kennedy and Waikiki foreshore areas.

It also plans to review the Learning City strategy to encourage a partnership between Murdoch University and the Department of Defence, with a view to utilising the Rockingham Campus for professional Masters Studies in international economics, resource security, political economics and counter terrorism.

City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels said the city was constantly expanding and welcomed ongoing development.
