City rehome program has tails wagging

JACQUI O'LEARYSound Telegraph

Saving the life of a friend with a wagging tail is almost the best thing you could do for yourself and your family, according to City of Rockingham ranger and pound officer Emma Gilham.

The City’s rehoming program has proven to be such a success this year, euthanasia rates have dropped to just 1 per cent.

A City spokesman said all dogs should have the chance to find a home, regardless of background.

“So why not consider a visit to the pound to meet some impounded animals first,” he said.

The RSPCA supported rehoming programs and spokesman Tim Mayne said in the past financial year it adopted 580 animals.

Of the 1126 dogs impounded by the City this year, 784 were reunited with owners and 328 were rehomed and 14 euthanased.
