Club marks decade
Fundraising efforts by the ladies at the Rockingham Sound Day VIEW Club will be celebrated next month with a big 10th anniversary event.
The ladies will celebrate both 10 years as a club in Rockingham and sponsoring 10 students through The Smith Family’s Learning for Life program.
President Penny Trimble said the VIEW Club had operated in Rockingham since 2003 but was started by the Smith Family in Sydney in 1960 as a service to women and the community.
“VIEW stands for voice, interests and education of women,” she said.
“It provides support, fun and friendship for the ladies.”
Mrs Trimble said supporting the Smith Family gave the women an opportunity to put something back into the community in their own little way.
“The program works to help disadvantaged children in the community get from kindergarten to work, it helps to give them the same opportunities as others,” she said.
“We have children who we have helped come and talk to us, who are now contributing to the community.”
The event will take place at the Rockingham Bowling Club on Thursday March 7 from 11am to 4pm.
Tickets are $35 per person which includes a two-course lunch, tea and coffee, entertainment, prizes and auctions.
