Club pushes for extra U13 players
Settlers Netball Club is calling on children keen to be involved in exercise to try out for the club’s under-13 sides.
Club vice-president Dale Maria said the volunteer-run club had grown to 115 members since its beginnings in 2008 and needed a few more under-13 players to flesh out two teams.
“We had full teams to register but with unforeseen circumstances it has left two of our under-13 teams with only six or seven players. We would like to have a total of either eight or nine players in case of sickness,” she said.
She said the club was formed by two mothers keen to see their daughters play netball six years ago. “The club started with four teams registered. It has now grown to 14,” Maria said.
“This year we have an under-17s team for the first time, two under-15s, four under-13s, five under-11s and two Net Set Go teams.”
Maria said she encouraged all young girls to become involved in netball, not just for exercise but for friendship.
“We all know physical exercise is important for healthy growth and the development of our children.
The game of netball is a great way to keep fit,” she said.
“We are a friendly club that welcomes any new members to get involved within our club either playing, coaching, parent support, community fundraisers and activities throughout the season.”
