Club’s Cup run at an end

Sound Telegraph

After defeating premier league Mandurah Soccer Club in the quarter-finals at the weekend, Baldivis Soccer Club’s impressive run in the Metropolitan Cup has come to an end in the semi-finals against last season’s runners-up Kalgoorlie College Football Club.

In windy conditions at Lark Hill, Baldivis started the better of the two teams and produced a couple of good chances that went wide of the goals.

End-to-end play followed and with half-time approaching, the goal that would eventually settle the tie was scored.

A looping shot from the edge of the box was saved by the Baldivis keeper, only for the rebound to be bundled over the line by the Kalgoorlie winger.

Baldivis pressed hard in the second half, but failed to convert their chances.

The following day, Baldivis travelled to Canning City for their league game knowing a win would guarantee them the second division title.

With injuries and aching limbs a scrappy game unfolded, but Baldivis dug deep and came away with the win that gave them the second successive league title in only their second year as a club, miraculously with four leagues games left to play.

Baldivis seconds finished their season with a closely contested game against Leeming, going down 4-3, but still finishing a very respectable third in their division.
