The weather is warming up and the crowds are returning to Rockingham Aquatic Centre.

The start of November marks the arrival of weekend opening hours at the pool, along with the introduction of a new swimming squad coach.

Former Australian swim team member Tayliah Zimmer will coach the 2016-17 squad training at the aquatic centre and brings with her an impressive track record in the pool.

A bronze medallist in backstroke in the 2006 Commonwealth Games and the 2007 World Swimming Championships, and a five-times Australian champion, Tayliah is looking forward to sharing her expertise with swimmers wanting to improve their stroke, fitness or swim in a social setting.

“I have been coaching for 15 years and enjoy sharing my training and racing experience with other swimmers,” said Tayliah, who also works as a lifeguard at Rockingham Aquatic Centre.

“Whether you are training for an event, want to improve your endurance or correct your techinique, I can help you to achieve your goals.” Mayor Barry Sammels said it was a big coup for the City to have someone of Tayliah’s experience coaching at the centre.

“The squad training program has been running for several years and has had great success in faction and inter-school carnivals,” he said.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to gain a competitive edge and learn some tips from an expert.”

The centre will run five series of its squad training program over 2016-17. Each series lasts five weeks.

Series 2 runs from November 14 to December 15.

The junior squad meets from 4-5pm and the intermediate/senior squad meets from 5-6pm.

The pool is now open from 6am on weekdays and 10am-6pm on weekends and public holidays.

Visit the City’s website for more information and an enrolment form, or contact the centre on 9591 0830.
