All the beauty, grit and determination of travelling around Australia will be on display for Rockingham to see.

Artist Miranda Free will tonight open an exhibition titled Journeys, showcasing more than 100 works of art, at Rockingham Central Library.

“It’s about the journey I’ve taken since a young girl and my artistic journey, which has had setbacks,” she said.

“I didn’t do any of it for a long time and then in my 40s, I took up art again. “Last year, my husband and I packed up a little tiny yellow caravan, the size of a double bed and he cycled his way around Australia, and I followed and painted my way around Australia for eight-and-a-half months.

“We decided we might as well raise funds for a charity while we did it, so we raised approximately $12,000 for the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation.”

To travel around the country in a teardrop caravan had been a dream of Free’s, with the exhibition a showcase of some of her adventures along the way.

“It was quite a hard gig, but it was a great thing to do,” she said.

“I used all different mediums, which was a challenge, but I used it as an opportunity to grow in my art.”

All artworks in the exhibition will be for sale along with prints, postcards and greetings cards.

The opening starts at 6pm, with those wanting to attend encouraged to register.

The Journeys exhibition will remain open throughout December.
