Colourful characters at circus

The oldest family circus in Australia, Circus Joseph Ashton, heads back to Mandurah from June 15 to 24 and you can be sure to meet some colourful characters.

Joseph Ashton said his circus remained popular thanks to the skillful performances and unique and exciting acts.

‘‘We’re very good at what we do,’’ he said.

‘‘When you come to our circus you’ve got the full range of circus acts, you’ve got flying trapeze, you might see a triple somersault on the flying trapeze which you won’t see anywhere else in the whole of Australia.

‘‘It goes right through to the animals, the wheel of death is just thrilling for everyone, clowns, everything.

‘‘That’s what a circus should be, a real variety show and that’s what we do.’’

The circus is designed to be family-friendly and Ashton said it was a great experience for kids and parents.

‘‘It’s family entertainment that’s the main thing,’’ he said.

‘‘You can bring toddlers, we have little kids there, right through to teenagers.

‘‘Plus it’s live, it’s right in front of you and you can’t beat that.’’

Ashton brothers Jordan and Merrick took out the Bronze award at the New Generation Circus Festival in Monte Carlo earlier in the year and Ashton said their performance was worth watching.

The big top will be at Hall Park, Mandurah on June 15, 16, 22 and 23 at 7.30pm, with matinee performances on June 16, 17 and 23 and the final show on June 24 at noon.
