The City of Kwinana is encouraging the community to have their say in the design of a park surrounding the Bollard Bulrush Wetland.

A draft local planning policy has been developed by the City for a public open space surrounding the wetland and the public is now invited to view and comment on the plan.

The Bollard Bulrush East Masterplan proposes a 50m buffer zone or public open space around the wetland which will include play equipment and park benches.

City of Kwinana Mayor Carol Adams said the space would be consistent in quality and design regardless of future housing developments.

“The design is comparable to Lake Monger or Herdsman Lake and residents can enjoy a 3km walk on footpaths surrounding the entire wetland,” she said.

“From an environmental perspective, the planned buffer will protect the Bollard Bulrush Wetland from the impact of urban development.

“Conservation fencing, storm water detention areas and wetland re-vegetation are elements included in this landscape master plan.

“This plan is essentially a ‘future-proof’ for the Bollard Bulrush Wetland area, ensuring that any developer planning to build in the area must comply with the standards we have set.”

Cr Adams said the park would be an asset to Kwinana and offer a high quality recreational space for the community.

“I encourage all residents to view and provide feedback on the plan, which is now available on the City’s website,” she said.

The public are invited to view the draft Bollard Bulrush East Masterplan on the City of Kwinana website until Friday, July 15, inclusive: http://www.kwinana.wa.gov.au/publicnotices.
