A host of Kwinana organisations were buoyed by a financial handout last week as the Kwinana Community Chest delivered more than $16,000 in grants.

The KCC is an initiative through the City of Kwinana and a number of private sector companies to help community organisations through grants.

Money allocated to a community chest trust has accumulated in recent years, with the interest earned given back to fitting Kwinana organisations.

A total of 14 community groups were invited to accept grants last Tuesday, with education, sporting and not-for-profit organisations benefiting.

Mayor Carol Adams is one of the directors along with city freeman and accountant John Iriks.

An advisory committee consisting of members of the public has also been set up to make recommendations to the directors on who funds should be allocated to.

A total of $16,732.50 was granted to community organisations last week, with the intention to make another spate of grants later in the year.
