Cook gets that winning feeling

BRIAN OLIVERSound Telegraph

Roger Cook will be Member for Kwinana for another four years after the incumbent member was declared the winner of the seat at the weekend.

Mr Cook increased his margin with a two-party preferred swing of 2.5 per cent to beat rival independent Carol Adam by 1150 votes.

The swing towards Mr Cook was one of the few shining lights for Labor in what was a devastating result overall for the party.

Mr Cook said he was delighted he was one of only three Labor members to increase their margin.

“Obviously we’re very pleased with the result and we hope it is an indication people thought we are working hard and doing an okay job representing the Kwinana community,” he said.

Mr Cook said there was hard work ahead to deliver infrastructure and services, and make sure the electorate was not forgotten by the Government.

“It’s important we continue to work hard to make sure we continue to attract the sort of resources and assistance government can provide,” he said.

The father-of-two said he was hungrier than ever to effect change, despite another term in opposition.

“Whether in government or opposition you always have to work hard to make sure you’re representing the hopes and aspirations of the community and making sure you are always on hand to assist those people who need assistance with government departments," he said.
