Dads, kids in camp-out fun
Sleeping bags and torches are on the list for fathers and students at Leda Primary School as they prepare for the Dads and Kids Camp Out.
Up to 27 dads and 33 students will pitch tents on the school oval on Friday night to take part in the bonding event.
YouthCARE chaplain Peter Smit said the camp was run by the Father Project to encourage relationships between fathers and their children.
“The night will include a presentation with practical tips about how to build relationships with your kids — how to express love, how to have fun and how to stay involved with their development and wellbeing,” he said.
Mr Smit said above all the night was about strengthening family relationships.
“We hope the vision spreads across all school communities,” he said.
Glenn Leahy, who helped organise the night, said he thought it was important for dads to spend time with their children.
“I am a tow truck driver and I work nights, so I don’t get to spend nearly as much time as I’d like to with my son,” he said.
“Hopefully we can do a father camp night on a regular basis because before you know it they have grown up.”
