Dance to express views at YOH Fest

Students have been busy at Baldivis Secondary College preparing a dance performance for the Act Belong Commit Youth on Health Festival.

The 2015 YOH Fest regional performances started on Monday and wrap up tomorrow at the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre and schools throughout the Peel region have registered dancers, actors and artists in different age groups and categories.

The festival is a chance for young people to express their views on health issues that are relevant to them and invites students to construct and perform their own performance on a relevant theme.

This year the theme is equality, and students at Baldivis Secondary College have developed a dance routine which depicts segregation, slavery and historical issues with contrasting black and white costumes and multimedia backgrounds.

The students have designed their own costumes, lighting, sound and choreography which includes contemporary-style moves with lifts.

The performance will feature about 50 dancers.

Baldivis Secondary College Year 9 and 10 students have been rehearsing for many weeks during class time and it will be the first YOH Fest performance for many.
