A special gift for inspiring indigenous students to be their best has led Kwinana Aboriginal teachers’ assistant Lisa Dann to win her second award for the year.

Only two months ago the mother of four was highlighted for her talent at the Department of Education’s WA Education Awards winning the Ben Drayton Award for WA Outstanding Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer for her role at North Parmelia Primary School.

Now, the Catholic Education Office has followed suit, awarding Mrs Dann the Outstanding Educator Award for Catholic Aboriginal Education for her position at Kolbe Catholic College.

Mrs Dann said it was rewarding to support indigenous students with their education.

“I am able to get up and go to work everyday because of the young people,” she said. “I have been blessed to have amazing families and students at the college to work with.

“I’m extremely proud of this achievement and thankful to be able to work with such a supportive team.”

Working at the school for almost a decade, Mrs Dann said she thought her chances for an award this year were looking good.

“I knew the principal had nominated me for this award, and being in this role for nine years, I did feel I might be close to achieving something,” she said.

Principal Robyn Miller said the school was proud to have a dedicated staff member such as Mrs Dann.

“We are truly blessed to have someone of Lisa’s calibre as part of the Kolbe Catholic College team,” she said.
