When a young Clint Boge told his parents he was going to be a musician when he grew up, they warned of a tough life ahead.

Boge's father, a bass player in a country music band, lived a life of touring, playing at every festival in central Queensland.

Boge started singing at five years of age and often travelled with his dad, forming fond memories of life on the road.

"They were right - there's not a great deal of money in it and it is hard work and lots of sacrifices," he said.

"I know I could do other things, but it's the love of the music that led me here.

"They say if you love what you do, you never have to work a day in your life.

"That's what I'm doing.

"Touring has its ups and downs, but so does every job.

"A life on the road comes with the territory.

"It's challenging but it is also self-inflicted, so I just soldier on." Boge first took to the road as a 16-year-old playing in a cover band.

He found success as a founding member of The Butterfly Effect in 1999, touring the world several times in the 12 years he fronted the rock outfit.

But conflict with other members led him in 2012 to take on new ventures.

He now leads progressive rock band Like Thieves and is embarking on an acoustic solo tour to promote his own music.

"I've got so many songs that I want to play that just didn't fit into the genre of bands I have previously played with," he said.

"I've always written the lyrics and melodies for every band I've been in - that comes from plenty of free time sitting in hotel rooms with just a guitar and my thoughts."

Boge hoped his solo tour would help shed the stigma of being the "former Butterfly Effect frontman".

"I want to shake that residual tie and see this as a rebranding of myself," he said.
