Donation tin theft devastates bistro
A Baldivis chef was left devastated last week after brazen thieves made off with a charity collection tin for the second time in two months.
The Chase Bar and Bistro's Sharron Ketley said the tin, which went missing from the venue's sports bar last Wednesday, contained about $200 in donations which were to go towards her participation in The 2016 Weekend to End Women's Cancers fundraiser.
Mrs Ketley said a tin containing about $500 was stolen in July.
She said the thefts were particularly difficult to accept because CCTV footage had shown both perpetrators were women.
"I'm absolutely devastated about it; I suppose I live in my own little world not really believing that people could sink so low," Mrs Ketley said.
"It's even harder to take that the thieves were women when all the money in there was for research into women's cancers."
Mrs Ketley said she had been fundraising for months to collect the $2000 minimum donation for Harry Perkins Institute, which is required to take part in the 60km race.
Bistro venue manager Alan Quinn said the thefts were unfair, because customers had donated money in good faith.
He said The Chase would match the monies stolen.
"These people really are low-lives," Mr Quinn said.
