Dramatic comeback

NIALL BOYLESound Telegraph

Secret Harbour Dockers coach Mark Pink has hailed his side’s dramatic turnaround after they came from six goals down to put Trinity Aquinas to the sword on Saturday.

The Dockers were reeling after suffering their first defeat in 12 months, against Southern River, and looked to be on the ropes after a torrid second quarter.

Trinity were well on top in the second stanza, booting six straight goals, with the Dockers offering no reply.

But they clicked into gear with kicking 12 out of 14 goals en-route to a hard-earned 14.10 (94) to 10.10 (70) win at Rhonda Scarrott Oval.

“We were pretty determined to win after our loss last week, which was our first in 12 months,” Pink said.

“We didn’t overreact because we knew we were low on numbers, with a lot of good players out, we haven’t got our full list on the park yet but we were confident we could put a good showing in.

“I was really disappointed with our 15 minutes in the second quarter but I felt the boys showed a lot of character to come back after that “I was rapt with the display after half-time but one begs the question where was it in the first quarter?”

The Dockers had little advantage on the scoreboard after a dominant first quarter showing.

They claimed 15 inside 50s but could only translate that to a one point lead, 2.3 to 2.2.

Within 20 minutes of the second quarter, things went from bad to worse as the Dockers crumbled and Trinity took full advantage to lead by 37-points.

Ryan Casson led the revival with three majors, while ruckman Cliff Brough, Ian Fobister and captain Ryan Stewart began to turn the screw.

Trailing by three points at halftime, 8.7 to 5.8, the Dockers’ renassiance in the second-half continued to record a valuable win in the WA Amateur Football League.

Other stand-out players included Matt Ware and Glenn Haggar.

The Dockers reserves were downed by 25-points by Trinity but the colts took out 11.9 (66) to 3.8 (26) win.
