Emergency services heroes recognised
The vital work that local emergency service volunteers play in protecting the community was recognised by the City of Mandurah at an awards ceremony last week.
Ten local emergency service agencies were represented at the second Volunteer Appreciation Evening at the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre.
There are a variety of agencies and organisations that support volunteer services in their important work in times of need, and also through various community events and activities.
Local emergency service volunteers make a valuable contribution in a range of areas, including bushfire services, land search and rescue services, first aid, State emergency services, cadets, marine rescue services and surf lifesaving.
Mayor Marina Vergone acknowledged the strong community spirit demonstrated by emergency service volunteers.
“Local emergency service volunteers donate their time to preserve life and property ... our emergency service volunteers represent what the Mandurah spirit is about … helping others, reaching out, and giving up valuable time for the community,” she said.
During the event, the Community Spirit Awards were announced.
This year’s recipients were Pam Bennett, Steve Peraldini, Warwick Webb, John Ree, Liam Gould and Chloe James, Mandurah State Emergency Service, Falcon Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service, Mandurah Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service, Mandurah Volunteer Marine Rescue Group and Dawesville Ambulance Volunteers.
The Community Spirit Awards aim to recognise those who display outstanding dedication, community involvement and personal attitude.
