Enrolments being taken at new school

A new primary school is ready to welcome its first cohort next year in one of WA’s fastest growing suburbs.

Apple green and navy blue will be the colours for Baldivis Gardens Primary School, which has already taken 170 enrolments, with numbers expected to rise before term 1 begins.

Built on what was once a market garden, the state-of-the-art facility promises to bring the best components of education together for children from kindergarten through to Year 6.

Principal Jayne Ebsworthy said there would be a strong focus on helping students achieve their potential, ensuring they were safe and secure in their learning environment, and providing a rich and varied curriculum.

“We will open offering specialist programs in music, physical education and a special focus on science, technology, engineering and maths,” she said.

Facilities will include two basketball courts, cricket nets, large oval, an undercover area with a commercial kitchen, a music room, a nature space in the early childhood area and playground equipment.

Deputy principal David Batt said the school had been designed to be environmentally friendly and sustainable for minimum impact on the environment.

“We’ve invested quite heavily in that and there will be a strong focus on technology too,” he said.

The school can have up to 430 students without demountable classrooms.

Deputy principal Mel Stewart said it was really exciting as the buzz grew in anticipation of the new school opening.

“We have our open day on Saturday from 10am-2pm, which will be a chance for the community to come and have a look at our school,” she said.

We will be providing after- school care through the YMCA ... and a kindergarten transition program.”
