Warnbro Education Support Centre students have been busy developing their entrepreneurial skills and putting them to use for a good cause.

Since their assignment began in term 2, students have raised $1340 for the not-for-profit community development organisation Indigenous Community Volunteers.

Deputy principal Marianne Mangano said each class created their own enterprise idea using their maths and English skills and then sold their products throughout the school to staff and students.

“Some of our students made salads while others made sugar soaps, magnets, cappuccinos and smoothies,” she said.

“It was fantastic to see they all had different ideas ... we wanted to teach students to have a positive purpose in life.”

ICV community development officer Emily Very said she was excited to learn about the students’ enterprise ideas.

“At ICV, we provide access to skilled volunteers and resources in areas where education, health care and employment opportunities are often limited,” she said.

“We rely completely on donations ... to operate so having a school like Warnbro on board is very encouraging and we are very grateful for the students.”
