Construction of the nbn network has begun in Rockingham promising faster broadband for the region.

Last week the City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels together with chief executive Andrew Hammond inspected the installation of one of the first nodes for the area.

WA corporate affairs manager Philippa Perry said Rockingham would be one of the first suburbs in WA to receive the fibre to the node technology, which will service 20,000 premises once complete.

“This is great news for residents in Rockingham and surrounding suburbs who will soon be able to experience the benefits of fast and reliable broadband in their area thanks to nbn and its delivery partner Downer Group,” she said.

“Telstra handed over the Rockingham telephone exchange to our contractor Downer early on in the roll-out which is why the technology can now be introduced to the area.”

Safety Bay, Shoalwater, Cooloongup, East Rockingham and Waikiki will also receive the technology as surrounding suburbs of Rockingham.
