There were attempted burglaries at two Rockingham schools last Wednesday night, but a quick police response resulted in both offenders being apprehended before they could enter the respective premises.

A 27-year-old man from Parmelia was charged with attempted burglary and stealing after being arrested by police on the grounds of Rockingham Beach Primary School just before midnight.

He does not have a criminal record and was bailed to appear at court on November 15.

About 3am on the same night, a 26-year-old Warnbro man was arrested by police after an alleged attempted break-in at Safety Bay Senior High School.

The offender was charged with attempted burglary, possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia and being armed with the intent to enter a premise.

He was also bailed and will appear at court on November 7.

Rockingham police officer- in-charge Senior Sergeant Brett Reyne said neither of the arrested men actually made it into the schools because of the quick response times of officers.

“We have got a number of proactive operations currently under way and additional staff targeting volume crime such as burglary,” he said.

“Rockingham detectives worked with members of the response team and apprehended both men as they tried to escape from the premises.”
